The new gTLD .storage was expected to become available this July from its registry Extra Storage Space, a US provider of self-storage units. However, earlier in May .storage changed hands and is now the 10th gTLD managed by XYZ.com, the registry operator for .security, .rent, .theatre, .college, etc.
The new owner will have to relaunch the new gTLD which has fewer than 800 domains in the .storage zone file. The new sunrise period is planned for November this year while the early access period starts in December. The prelaunch price is set at about $80 and doesn’t look likely to change. The company said that premium names will not sell for premium pricing, but will stick to the general fee.
XYZ.com acquired .storage thanks to cash flow excess available from the sale of .xyz domains.
